The Flash

Ezra Miller as The Flash returns to the big screen even after shocking accusations have been made against him as a groomer of minors, however, with the power of the speed force even the law fails to deliver justice lol…

Released on the 16th of June 2023, The Flash was been a highly anticipated movie being compared to the likes of Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight” with a budget of over 220 Million dollars by distributor Warner Bros. Pictures.

The premise follows Barry Allen as he uses his super speed to change the past saving both his parents from a dreadful fate, but his attempt to save his family creates a world without superheroes, forcing him to race for his life to save the future.

Straight off the bat, I was reminded why I was never a Flash fan, especially of Ezra Miller’s rendition.

The character is just abrasive, annoying, and extremely silly, I found it hard to connect with the character like it is sometimes when you’re trying to connect your Bluetooth earphones to your smartphone.

In all seriousness though, has the story of Barry Allen ever evolved or developed since receiving his powers? He works as a forensic scientist at a chemical lab, dealing with complex chemicals with ties to Batman yet still hasn’t figured out what happened to his parents – this simply blows my mind.

It seems to be that no matter when you turn on the TV and see Barry Allen, his always trying to solve the murder of his mother, so much so that in this film he breaks all laws and decides to change the past which would see his beloved mother and father avoiding their terrible fate.

However, not all goes as expected – as a singular change to the past would have some dire consequences for the future, changing it and molding it into a distorted future of itself creating nothing but chaos along the way.

And if you thought one Barry Allen was too much to handle, imagine having two of them.

I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the future Barry Allen from A Perfect Future with friends and family turn out to be even more irritating than the one we already had, at this point, I was begging for the movie to get it over with.

If you’ve seen it once, you’ve seen it already is what I say.

I hate to sound like a broken record, but, another aspect that prohibits The Flash from being a great movie is the reused villain General Zod played by Michael Shannon, and the abysmal CGI effects which leave you in awe at the fact that this movie was given a budget of over two hundred million dollars yet still produce such a disappointment.

A lot about this movie works against itself in the sense that by trying to make it funny, it ends up cringe as all hell and by trying to make it more serious it begins to come off more as a Batman film – only without the awesome suspense and buildup that make Batman films well…, Batman films.

In conclusion, The Flash movie promises its fans to be an EPIC world-changing movie that will deliver incredible visuals and a compelling story that may rival Christopher Nolan’s “Dark Knight” masterpiece, however, the truth is that it fails in every sense, flat hitting the concrete at 100 km/h, a tragedy really.

So before ending the review, I want to state off the bat that I did have mixed hopes before watching “The Flash” simply because I didn’t understand why Warner Bros would continue to use Ezra Miller amid grooming allegations and furious backlash from fans across the entire world implying that they would not go see the movie upon its release – my thought process was like, why keep an actor in a significant film that would only negatively impact the importance of this film?

All-in-all, I advise those interested in watching The Flash to proceed with caution, and keep your expectations to a minimum unless you’re a die-hard fan of the DC character regardless of who is playing it or what the story is about.

I give The Flash a 3 out of 5 rating.
