The Creator

As a future war between the human race and artificial intelligence rages on, ex-special forces agent Joshua is recruited to hunt down and kill the Creator, the elusive architect of advanced AI.

The Creator has developed a mysterious weapon that has the power to end the war and all of mankind.

As Joshua and his team of elite operatives venture into enemy-occupied territory, they soon discover the world-ending weapon is an AI in the form of a young child.

Straight off the bat, “The Creator” captures your interest with its incredible visual effects which are nothing short of out of this world, immersing you in a futuristic dystopian world where humans and Artificial Intelligence have come to co-exist amongst one another – bringing with it futuristic technology far more advanced and elaborate, unlike anything you’ve ever seen.

The Creator’s AI in the form of a young child is both haunting and thought-provoking, adding layers of complexity to the story.

John David Washington who plays an ex-special forces double agent named Joshua – delivers a remarkable performance as the lead actor of “The Creator” whereby you get to see every emotional expression on his face, whether be it happy, sad, or in dispute – you could see it all on his body language.

The conflict that Joshua has going on, within himself on whether to view artificial intelligence / A. I as nothing more than machine parts and pieces or to start viewing them as beings closer to humans with they’re own complex feelings is thought-provoking at the depths of it all.

In a way it feels as though this film aims to condition people for the future Artificial Intelligence that will be installed in major corporations such as McDonald’s, FIFA, etc… Though this could be my paranoia speaking, who knows?

Visually speaking, the CGI effects are nothing short of breathtaking, and the amount of realism and depth is so profound – that one could almost mistake it for reality, I was stunned and left in awe at the beauty of this film.

It captures your attention, poking at your curiosity with its breathtaking visuals and landmarks whilst keeping you completely enticed to know what exactly caused the rift between humans and A. I – what exactly happened and why was it necessary to advance with such vile measures when the other side wasn’t fighting back as hard?

In conclusion, The Creator is a film that is trying to bridge the unjustified fear people have of having to live with humanlike Artificial Intelligence and compete with it shortly, at least on this one fact I firmly concur.

On the other hand, The Creator is not an action-centered movie as I would have expected – it lacks the action, whereas it exiles in its thought-provoking lore and exploration side of things.

Accommodated by an incredible cast that includes Gemma Chan, Ken Watanabe, Sturgill Simpson, Madeleine Yuna Voyles, Allison Janney, and more.

I give The Creator a 3.8 out of 5 rating.

You know what was funny, though? When I was prepping the film, or not even prepping it, I was just kind of curious about certain technology, and I went to a studio in LA that does the whole virtual volume stuff. Just as I was waiting, there was a poster on the wall, and it was basically the process of making a film. It was like a diagram of “This is how a movie is made…You write the script, it does this, and these are all the different people…” and I was looking at the poster going, “Okay, why have they got this poster on the wall? It's so obvious this is filmmaking. What's this about?” And the guy came up to me and went, “Oh, I see you're looking at the poster,” and I was like, “Yeah,” and he goes, “That's over 100 years old.” I was like, “What?” And then you realize in over a century, we've not changed a thing.
