Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves

Witness the marvelous adaptation of the popular role-play game Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves starring Chris Pine and Michelle Rodriguez.

Released on the 31st of March 2023 by distributor Paramount Pictures across the globe, Dungeons & Dragons, or “D&D” for short is directed by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein.

The premise follows a charming thief and a band of unlikely adventurers embarking on an epic quest to retrieve a long-lost relic, but their charming adventure goes dangerously awry when they run afoul of the wrong people.

I’ll be upfront and state that I have never played Dungeons & Dragons, however, I have heard about it throughout the years on popular series such as “Stranger Things” and word of mouth from friends and family.

So when the film was released I decided to give it a chance and boy oh boy was I in for a treat.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves features a Hollywood blockbuster of a cast from various films but none captured my attention more than Michelle Rodriguez, who’s become synonymous with the “Fast and Furious” franchise playing the character of Letty Oritz.

This film is witty, fun, exciting, hilarious, and has a bit of seriousness to it over time.

From the beginning it prompts your full attention with its incredible visuals and CGI effects showcasing the various types of creatures that are included in this world, ranging from dwarves, humans, sorcerers, griffins, and the fattest, most nimble dragon I’ve ever seen lol…

The key factor of this film is without a doubt the comedy relief.

It wasn’t even a good 5 minutes into the film and I found myself bursting with laughter and tears rolling down my eyes from the constant laughs I had not expected.

The trailer showed that there would be crazy amounts of action using magic and other sorts of abilities but not stomach-cramping comedy gags.

What sets Dungeons & Dragons apart from other films is that it doesn’t take itself too seriously and neither should you – it’s a film dedicated to leaving you smiling, enjoying every moment, and having a good time without banging your head with overly complicated plot twists and information.

Chris Pine and Michelle Rodriguez steal with film with their renditions of Edgin Darvis and Holga, their chemistry is great to watch especially Holga who comes off as all brawns but no brains as a character, however, there’s more to her than meets the eye.

It’s a shame that it didn’t receive more attention than it’s worth, I honestly believe it’s a great film that should be watched a couple of times before moving on to the next. It’s suited for both adults and kids to watch separately or together makes no difference.

My point is – Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is a phenomenal film that will leave you in stitches from the very beginning. The story is simple to follow and it has a little bit of everything for almost anyone.

All in all, I give Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves a 4.1 out of 5 ratings.

Let me know what other game adaptations you’d recommend for me to watch and whether you agree or disagree with my review.

"We were very lucky to have this established lore behind us that we could build off of and to have these lore masters, these experts in their field. It almost felt like we were making historical fiction where we're consulting with the historians who know everything there is to know. So we did try to make it as as accurate to the materials we possibly could have."
