Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin

Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin is the seventh installment in the Paranormal Activity series.

Margot, a young woman who was abandoned by her mother as a baby, travels to a secluded Amish community with a documentary film crew seeking answers about her mother and extended family.

I’ve never seen the earlier installments before this one yet still found myself intrigued and glad that it doesn’t require me to watch the previous version before this one.

I love the elements on which the film was founded, a mother abandoning her daughter at a hospital, caught on the hospital’s CCTV cameras and years later the once little girl wanting to know her linage, starts looking for answers on the internet.

The reason that I loved this idea is due to so many children around the world go through the same thing so it resonates with the audience. You can imagine yourself in her shoes, when all you want are answers, to know who your parents are, and why did they give you up, how far would you be willing to go to find these answers?

Unfortunately for our young Margot (played by Emily Bader), she found more than she was looking for at the cost of many lives as a result.

The biggest red flag Margot should have taken to heart is when the little girl told her that her mother is still around here when everyone else around the farm kept telling her the exact opposite, if I was in her shoes I would leave everything and be on the earliest plane back home ASAP, but this is a supernatural genre so no one has common sense lol…

There were too many red flags in this film to ignore and she didn’t take any of them seriously enough, not even the two-headed goat was enough to get them to leave. Nor the moment she went into the empty room, hiding under the bed yet felt the presence of someone laying on it. For me, she stopped being brave and become stupidity, end of the story.

I can’t say anything about the other installments however this film’s pacing was brilliant, the storytelling was constant and the cast was perfect.

I recommend this film for movie nights with the family and friends, you won’t want to miss anything.

Thanks for reading…
