Sonic the Hedgehog 2

Director Jeff Fowler returns with the second installment of Sonic the Hedgehog from SEGA and Paramount Picture Studio

This time, we learn a lot more about our favorite blue hedgehog and are introduced to two very important figures in the Sonic franchise, “Knuckles the Echidna” voiced by ( Edris Elba) and Miles “Tails” Prower by (Colleen O’Shaughnessey).

Colleen O’Shaughnessey by the way is the same voice actor for the original Sonic games, so this made the transition from a gaming adaptation to film so much better to accept.

Though I have to admit Jim Carrey is the star of this film, his change from the first film to this one is astonishing, he represented “Doctor Eggman” as we know and love him from the Sonic games.

He was quirky, funny and so animated, that it’s as if he took the character straight out of the game itself. After all that the man has been through the past few years, it’s refreshing to see him getting back into his energetic self again.

The introduction of “Knuckles the Echidna” was enjoyable however the only letdown regarding this character is that the films pacing at explaining his reason for wanting revenge again Sonic took too long to get to, and in the meantime we are given a badass who’s an empty shell with a few words to say. Even Agent Stone was like really Doctor? Lol…

The things that make this film a better sequel to its predecessor are that the film firstly explores more locations like many Sonic games, secondly, we met Knuckles and Tails, thirdly, Doctor Eggman was justified by Jim Carrey, and fourthly, we were introduced to the “Chaos Emeralds”, not just one but all of them.

Oh least I forget, “Rachel” played by (Natasha Rothwell). OMG, another film with another black woman that has nothing but male energy all over, destroying her wedding as a result of finding out the truth. Whatever happened to staying calm?

Now what I did not expect to see in the second installment of the film was “Super Sonic” in broad daylight. I mean I remember the first time I saw this form whilst playing “Sonic Unleashed” on the PlayStation 3 and I had never loved sonic more than that moment right there.

But to see it so soon in the second film completely blew my mind and not only that, but the post-credit scene revealing Shadow as well, I mean DAMN, can anything be kept a secret in the world of Sonic? I know Sonic is fast and “unstoppable” but aren’t we going a bit too fast lol?

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is worth watching, it’s full of humorous moments and very nostalgic. The gaming fans will most definitely enjoy this one better than the first because of its gaming canon material.

Great visuals, incredible VFX effects, and beautiful storytelling. Tell me what your favorite moment of the film was in the comments section below.
