The Super Mario Bros. Movie

Brace yourself for a heart-pumping, visually captivating, and spontaneous adventure in – The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

Featuring nothing but the best in voiceovers from a phenomenal cast starting with Jack Black, Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day and so much more.

Adapted from Nintendo’s Mario video game franchise, The Super Mario Bros. Movie was released on the 5th of April 2023 by distributor Universal Pictures, and produced by Nintendo and Illumination Entertainment.

The film features an origin story for the brothers Mario and Luigi, Italian-American plumbers who are transported to an alternate world and become entangled in a battle between the Mushroom Kingdom, led by Princess Peach voiced by Anya Taylor-Joy, and the Koopas, led by Bowser voiced by Jack Black.

Now that you’ve gotten the jest of things, let’s dive into the review.

First of all, I’d love to applaud Illumination Entertainment for their crisp, clean animation that carries and represents the Mario franchise so well, you can’t help but love everything you see.

It’s colorful and vibrant and the creatures are so adorable even during their battles you’ll want to jump into the screen and take one for yourself.

The story is so well written and put together by Matthew Fogel that anyone can watch it either as a family movie during movie nights, or alone in your room and still appreciate the incredible amount of detail that was put into this movie, starting with the sound effects, straight from the games.

Though it’s called The Super Mario Bros. Movie, it’s no secret that Mario is the face of the franchise, and this movie’s execution as to why that is clear as water.

Mario voiced by Chris Pratt is optimistic, a go-getter, who’s willing to chase his dream no matter the cost and knows that as long as he’s together with Luigi, nothing can stop them, however, this is something Luigi voiced by Charlie Day has to come to realize as he is more of the timid personality, fearful of the unknown but when all chips are on the floor, you can count on him.

To put it into simpler terms, Mario is the sword and Luigi is the shield. Together they are an unstoppable force.

Bowser voiced by Jack Black is probably one of my favorite characters of this movie, his hilarious even when he doesn’t mean to be, his obsession with Princess Peach is something that should award the man with a “SIMP” meddle lol…

All in all, The Super Mario Bros. Movie is one of the best adaptations of a video game that I’ve ever seen.

It’s an amalgamation of the Mario franchise adapted to perfection. Showcasing both popular Nintendo games such as Donkey Kong and Mario Kart and their relevance to the lore with such ease.

Not only does it do wonders in introducing itself to a new audience but it also builds mystery for those that have followed the franchise when stated that Princess Peach is more than she seems to be, she’s not a mushroom that’s for sure lol…

So what is she and where is she from?

To conclude the review, The Super Mario Bros. Movie is nothing you’d expect but offers so much more, leaving you with an undeniably satisfied smile on your face from the holistic events.

I give The Super Mario Bros. Movie a 5 out of 5 ratings.
