Movie

Cruella

Estella is a young and genius-minded girl who’s determined to make a name for herself in the fashion world. After the death of her mother, she meets a pair of thieves who take her in and create their own little family.

In all honesty, this could be Disney’s best live-action remake, the story is beautifully portrayed, the pacing is just right, we are shown a side to Cruella that we didn’t know from them the 1996 film or the 1961 animated movie. It’s quite amazing how we judge a person for who they are now without understanding their upbringing and the trials they had to face.

From the 1996 film you’d think Cruella has always been insane but come to think of it, she only took after her mother Baroness Hellman who at the birth of Estella ordered for her own daughter’s death but thanks to John’s quick response was taken in by another servant of the house and raised Estella as her daughter.

The resemblance between Estella and Baroness was quite fascinating to watch, even before the reveal, you could pick up on small little bread crumbs that Estella and Baroness had the same energy, same personality, and charisma, that is if you had watched the 1996 film.

What I loved about this film is finding out how Estella became to be known as Cruella De Vil and how she had met her trusty henchmen Jasper and Horace, imagine my surprise when it’s revealed that they’d known each other from kids and that at once referred to each other as a family.

Emma Stone played her role as Cruella with nothing but greatness, for being one of the most recognized and hated Disney villains, it was only natural to love her in this film. If anyone would have told me that Estella was the best part of this film, you’d tell them to get glasses and recommend counseling lol…

Director Graig Gillespie was very smart in showing us how the coat made from Dalmatians would have looked like had Cruella gotten her hands on them, even convincing Baroness into thinking she had killed her dogs however whether it is good or bad that Estella had listened to her inner voice and became Cruella in the process is left unanswered.

If Estella had not listened to the inner voice that everyone had always told her to keep away, she would not have ended up the crazy psycho we know, yet she would have not known her true history and inheritance. Cruella has become a very complicated character yet I can’t help but love her.

The cast is phenomenal, loved Jasper and especially Horace for his love of always trying to find an “angle” lol and how could I forget Wink, the smartest dog I’ve ever seen lol.

Thanks for reading…
